This training seminar will cover ICEAA’s new Software Cost Estimating Certification (SCEC) and an overview of software estimating.  The nine SCEC modules will be discussed, common software development and maintenance processes will be reviewed, and best practices with estimating effort, cost and schedule will be identified.  Cost drivers of size, complexity will be explained, and common software effort and schedule CERs will be provided. The different software sizing metrics (SLOC and Function Points) will be identified and differentiated. We will discuss the different software development paradigms (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), and different approaches to estimating custom development and COTS/SaaS software projects. We will touch on some of the leading parametric tools, and the strengths/weaknesses with parametric tools will be noted.

The seminar will also explain how to prepare for and take the SCEC exam.
